CMCC to Recognize Cape May County Zoo April 21

April 13, 2011

Atlantic Cape Community College’s Cape May County Campus will celebrate Earth Day 2011 by recognizing their neighbor, the Cape May County Zoo. The celebration will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Thursday, April 21, on the first floor of CMCC, 341 Court House-South Dennis Road, Cape May Court House.

The Cape May County Zoo will provide several zoo animal demonstrations, habitat explanations and a discussion about volunteer opportunities during the event.

Other event highlights include: live acoustic music, poetry readings, recycling displays sponsored by the Campus Ambassadors Club and Student Services; a Spring Festival art display by the Fine and Performing Arts Club; and free refreshments.

Miss Cape May County Teen “Outstanding,” Amy Phillips, will also attend the event. Phillips’ platform is to educate the community about the zoo and the importance of donating to help animals.

A donation box is located on the first floor of CMCC. The community is encouraged to donate the following items: 20-gallon aquariums with screen lids; Crayola modeling foam (for animal footprints); non-toxic paint (for animal paintings); picture frames (8x10 or 11x14); Canvas or sturdy paper (for animal paintings); aluminum foil; hand soap; dish soap; kitchen knives; scissors; disinfectant wipes; round cake pans; paper towels; loppers (branch cutters); metal chain; dog clips; spray water bottles; perfume/cologne (any kind); sturdy bird toys (bigger is better); wood blocks (for birds); natural twine and rope; rawhides (medium to large); pigs ears; non-plush dog toys (sized medium to large; Kong and Nylabone brands are best); Fisher Price crib toys, sound toys, etc. (all plastic, no small pieces); catnip (dry or fresh); small CD players; nature CDs; and balloons (not inflated).
