Student-Athletes Named NJCAA Academic All-Americans
July 7, 2011
Atlantic Cape Community College student-athletes John Benigno of North Cape May and Mary Lumor of Galloway have been named Academic All-Americans by the National Junior College Athletic Association for their exemplary achievement during the 2010-2011 academic year.
Benigno, 20, is a goalkeeper for Atlantic Cape’s soccer team. He has maintained a 3.71 GPA toward a general studies associate in science degree.
“John was a quiet leader and a steady performer who worked hard to improve his skills, as he didn’t play in high school,” said Mike Rennick, senior athletics and fitness manager at Atlantic Cape.
Lumor, an all-purpose volleyball player, is known for her positive attitude and her ability to play all of the positions on the court. The dynamic 20-year-old has maintained a 3.72 GPA and is working toward a nursing associate in applied science degree.
To be eligible for Academic All-American recognition, student-athletes must complete three college semesters, maintain a 3.6-3.79 GPA for 45 semester hours and letter in at least one sport recognized by the NJCAA.
