May 23, 2012
Atlantic Cape Community College conferred the third President’s Distinguished Alumni Award to Katherine Morris, a partner at Cooper Levenson Attorneys at Law, at the 45th annual commencement, May 17.
Morris graduated from Atlantic Cape in 1990, and continued her education at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey and the Rutgers University School of Law-Camden. She is admitted to the bar in New Jersey, the New Jersey Federal District Court, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Tax Court.
Prior to attending law school, Morris was highly successful in the casino industry and served as a Casino Host/Credit Executive at the Sands Hotel and Casino and as an Executive Casino Host at the Claridge Hotel and Casino. She was part of the team that developed the first gaming rewards card in the Atlantic City industry. Morris is a member of the Vincent S. Haneman American Inn of Court, the Atlantic County Bar Association, the Cooper Levenson Scholarship Committee, a past solicitor of the Executive Board of the Atlantic County Mainland Chamber of Commerce, advisor for the Girl Scouts of the South Jersey Pines “Girls in Law” Program and has taught Business Law as an adjunct instructor at Atlantic Cape.
“Without Atlantic Cape Community College, I would not have followed my educational and professional dreams. From its beginnings as a small community college, Atlantic Cape has grown and embraced its mission of changing lives through excellence in education and involvement in the community,” Morris said. “Atlantic Cape now offers nearly 50 associate degrees at three campuses, benefits from an educational partnership with Rutgers University, and offers the opportunity of distance learning technologies. Atlantic Cape continues to shape the futures of its students, as it did mine, by providing quality education and guidance on the track to success.”
The award, initiated by Atlantic Cape’s Alumni Association Advisory Committee, recognizes an Atlantic Cape graduate who has displayed professional, personal, public or community-based accomplishments. The prestigious award demonstrates Atlantic Cape’s dedication to strengthening its alumni relations. Past recipients include Linwood attorney Michael R. Rann and Janice DeCicco Fipp, superintendent of Northfield Community Schools.
