Paralegal Studies & Office Systems Technology Open Houses Planned

July 25, 2012

Atlantic Cape Community College will hold open houses for those interested in learning more about careers, education and certifications in the paralegal and office systems technology fields, 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 8, in the J-Building lobby at the Mays Landing Campus, 5100 Black Horse Pike.

The Paralegal Studies program is an American Bar Association approved program. The program trains students to become paralegals, not lawyers or legal administrators. Atlantic Cape offers two Paralegal Studies degrees, an Associate in Applied Science and an Associate in Science.

According to the United States Department of Labor, employment for paralegals and legal assistants is projected to grow by 18 percent by 2020. Atlantic Cape’s program provides students access to a solid foundation in paralegal education and prepares graduates for entry-level positions in public and private law offices. Courses are taught by New Jersey licensed attorneys and practicing paralegals and cover: civil procedure, torts and personal injury, family law, wills and estates, legal research and writing, real estate transactions, bankruptcy and legal ethics.

The Office Systems Technology program at Atlantic Cape is designed to meet the demand for qualified administrative office professionals to enter, advance or re-enter the workforce in corporations, educational institutions, hospitals and medical offices, governmental agencies and businesses.

This program is offered on a full- or part-time basis, with classes available online and in person and leads to an Associate in Applied Science degree or certifications in several specialties. The coursework includes keyboarding, word processing, computer technology and applications, multimedia and publishing applications, administrative management, records and information management, and technical communications.
