Atlantic Cape to Hold Jan. 17 Info Session on Jobs for Unemployed in Natural Gas Industry

Atlantic Cape Community College will hold an information session about its new Construction Operator Technician training program on Friday, Jan. 17, at 10 a.m., in Building T at the college’s Mays Landing Campus, 5100 Black Horse Pike.

The goal of the program is to prepare the unemployed or underemployed with the skills needed to work as pipe-fitters in the region’s natural gas industry.

Interested individuals must be 18 years old or older, possess a high school diploma or GED, pass drug and alcohol screening, pass a criminal background check, be able to lift 100 pounds, and possess a driver’s license.

The Construction Operator Technician Training Program is a comprehensive 124-hour course designed to teach the skills and certifications needed to enter the natural gas industry. Training topics include:

  • Pipe fitting, fusion, installation and inspection
  • Leak detection and gas meter regulation
  • Accident awareness and prevention
  • Voltage/current diagnostics and calibration
  • Blueprint and pipeline drawings

Upon completion of the course, students will be prepared to take the National Gas Association New Construction Operator Qualification Exam. The curriculum includes three days of technical class work with an online component, five days classroom training, and 10 days of field training.

The unemployed and underemployed can qualify for funding to cover the cost of tuition.
