Harriet Tubman Comes to Life at CMCC
February 15, 2008
Atlantic Cape Community College continues its celebration of Black History Month with the heralded one-woman show "Harriet Tubman: The Chosen One" on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 12:30 p.m., in the Cape May County Campus lecture hall.
The historic show, performed by respected actress Gwendolyn Briley-Strand, reenacts one of the many Underground Railroad journeys conducted by Tubman, a courageous slave who risked her life to lead others to freedom.
Briley-Strand, who has presented this "edutainment" vehicle since 1993, has performed at numerous schools, national and international institutions and at such distinguished venues as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the White House.
She recreates the life and times of the indomitable Tubman with music, props, costumes and superb acting.
The Cape May County Campus is at 341 Court House-South Dennis Rd., Cape May Court House. The show is free and open to the public. For more information, call Daymis Alicea at (609) 343-4832, or e-mail dalicea@atlantic.edu.
