CMCC Hosts Criminal Justice Event for Cape May County Students
July 12, 2010
Atlantic Cape Community College’s Cape May County Campus hosted the Summer Institute for Law and Public Safety, to educate high school students about careers in criminal justice.
The Summer Institute is a cooperative program with Cape May County Technical High School and is funded by the New Jersey Department of Education Tech Prep Grant. The Community and Cultural Affairs department of Atlantic Cape provided student lunches.
In June, 15 students from the Cape May County Technical School attended the four-day program to preview careers in law enforcement and public safety: John McConnell of Cape May; Francis E. Campbell, Conor Cormican, Macie Kramer, Bruce Napioekowski and Ande Wilson of Cape May Court House; Robert Kelly of Del Haven; Juliana Cipressi of Marmora; Frankie Pappas of Sea Isle City; Anthony Payne and Michelle Ralidak of Seaville; James E. Homan of Tuckahoe; Valerie Botto of Wildwood Crest; and Shawn Bader and Mariel Gold of Woodbine.
Students learned evidence-gathering techniques, helped lift fingerprints from evidence and experienced sobriety testing in the classroom. The program also introduced students to the Department of Homeland Security during a visit to the FAA Technical Center and an introduction to courtrooms, the Canine Unit and Bike officers at the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Department.
