Description: Student Governance

Student Government Association: Every Atlantic Cape student is a member of the Student Government Association (SGA).

The SGA is established under the policies and regulations of Atlantic Cape Community College. The SGA is responsible for administering its programs and monies in compliance with the rules and regulation prescribed by the Office of Student Affairs and the College. The main policy-making body of the SGA is the Student Senate. The Student Senate is responsible for supervising the work of SGA committees, chartering student organizations, approving budgeting of all funds, determining student policy, and working with faculty and administration to improve the College.

The Office of Student Affairs, in cooperation with the Atlantic Cape SGA, oversees the registration and conduct of all Atlantic Cape student organizations. The Office of Student Affairs will designate the SGA advisor. The SGA Advisor will provide guidance and assist in facilitating communications with the school’s administration and other community leaders. The SGA advisor will have the power to veto any decision made by the SGA if he/she believes it is not representative of Atlantic Cape or harms the reputation of the College in any way. The advisor will be invited to and must be informed of all SGA meetings. The Office of the Vice President of Student Affairs shall have authority over the actions of the SGA. Any decision regarding an action of the SGA by the VP shall be in writing. This decision shall be transmitted to the SGA within three weeks of the date or as soon as possible after a written description of the action is received by the VP.

Student organizations are open to all students regardless of race/color, national origin, religion/creed, disability, age, marital status, sex or sexual orientation.

The Board of Trustees of Atlantic Cape recognizes fraternities and sororities on campus pursuant to the rules and regulations of the SGA.

Religious and political groups have the right to organize and be recognized by the SGA. They will have the right to use the name of Atlantic Cape and its facilities but will not receive funds to run their clubs.

Use of the College’s name in publicity for SGA organizations or external advertising for SGA events must receive prior approval from the Office of the Student Affairs in cooperation with the College Relations Office.
