The viability and vitality of an educational institution depend upon the ability of its teaching staff to teach and grow as teachers, or the willingness of its non-faculty members to perform efficiently their separate duties with the desire to undertake more responsible roles in the administration and operation of the college, and for all personnel to cope successfully with challenges as they arise. A promotion system exists in large part to invite and reward the service that will meet these needs.
