Annmarie K. Chelius

Birthplace: Philadelphia, Pa.

Education and training:

A.A.S., Academy of Culinary Arts; A.A., Atlantic Cape Community College; B.S., Thomas Edison State College; M.S. in Hospitality Management, Fairleigh Dickinson University

Career highlights:

Like many ACA graduates, Chef Chelius elected to start her career as a pastry chef in the local casino industry. Other professional experiences include: catering and working as assistant pastry chef at The Parker House hotel in Massachusetts, working with Chef Michael Huchet in Michelin's three star-winning Frenchman's Creek Yacht and Country Club in Florida, and working under Chef Georges Perrier at Philadelphia's famed Le Bec Fin, which was cited by Food and Wine Magazine as the nation's best French restaurant.

In addition to her pastry specialty, she also has extensive experience working with hot foods, particularly in the catering industry.

In 1996, Chef Chelius joined the ACA faculty. Additionally, she teaches Hospitality Management courses as an adjunct instructor at Atlantic Cape Community College.

An advocate for healthy cooking, Chef Chelius is actively involved in First Lady Michelle Obama's Let's Move! campaign, an initiative to combat childhood obesity. Currently, she presents healthy cooking demos and lectures to the Communateen Club, a 4-H club that she co-leads. In 2010, she "adopted" the Ocean City Intermediate School, where she delivered cooking demonstrations to children to teach them how to prepare simply and healthy meals and after-school snacks.

Honors and affiliations:

-2015 recipient of the Sysco/CAFÉ Postsecondary Foodservice Educator of the Year Award

-2013, 2012 recipient of the Center for the Advancement of Foodservice Professionals "Innovation in Education Award"

-2011 recipient of the Spirit of Women "Community Hero in Action" National Award

-Organic Internship with Nora Pouillon, 2011

-New Jersey Certification in Hospitality/ Tourism in Secondary Education

-Coach of the 2007 ACA New York Food Show team, which earned eight medals for pastry centerpieces

-Gold medalist in the 2002 and 1984 New York Food Shows

-Associations: Northern American Vegetarian Society, Soroptomist of Cape May County, Atlantic City-Philadelphia Chapter of NEWH Hospitality Industry Network, American Culinary Federation, and Women Chefs and Restaurateurs
