Dual Credit Program

The New Jersey Commission on Higher Education established dual enrollment programs to increase access to postsecondary education for the state’s high school students. Dual enrollment programming provides an opportunity for high school students to earn college credit by taking college-level courses while simultaneously earning their high school diploma.

Dual credit courses are taught at Atlantic and Cape May County high schools by high school teachers who meet college-level educational standards. These high school teachers work closely with Atlantic Cape faculty liaisons to ensure the academic rigor the students exhibit in their high school course is equivalent to Atlantic Cape’s college course.  Upon dual credit course completion, you receive a letter grade that is then recorded on your official Atlantic Cape Community College transcript.

Benefits of Dual Credit

  • Students earn college and high school credit simultaneously for each approved course successfully completed
  • Credit earned can be applied toward an Atlantic Cape degree or certification OR students may transfer credit earned at Atlantic Cape to other post-secondary institutions in or out-of-state
  • Tuition is offered at a significantly reduced rate only $59.30 per credit with no additional costs for fees. This rate is a 41% discount on the county resident tuition rate per credit at Atlantic Cape!
  • Students who participate in dual enrollment are more likely to earn degrees and to do so sooner than other students

Steps to Register

  1. Select your high school from the menu below and review the list of approved dual credit courses with your high school guidance counselor. Eligibility criteria, including whether you meet academic prerequisites should be discussed at this meeting.  Register for the course at your high school.

  2. Apply to Atlantic Cape. Create an Atlantic Cape account and complete the High School application. You will receive an acceptance letter with your student ID number and login credentials to your official Atlantic Cape student account.

  3.  On March 15 of the school year you are taking the dual credit course, registration opens. At that time, Atlantic Cape will send you an email instructing you to log into your Atlantic Cape account, select the courses for which you'd like to earn college credit, and register. It's that easy!

Meet Our Local High School Students Earning College Credits

Meet Andrew Rock

andrew-rockAndrew Rock graduated as an "Early College Program Student" that included dual, concurrent, and articulated credits. He attended Atlantic County Institute of Technology High School (ACIT) and Atlantic Cape Community College. Andrew began his college journey at only 14. This program allowed Andrew to graduate in the Spring of 2020 with both his associate's degree from Atlantic Cape and his high school diploma from ACIT. Andrew is attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, studying Aviation Meteorology and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Andrew held himself to a higher standard given this opportunity at Atlantic Cape and excelled through challenges.
