Worthington students continued to receive effective stress relief support before finals on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 with Zumba dance. Arlin Padilla, owner of Arlin’s Dance Spot in Ventnor City, NJ educated students and staff with Zumba, a form of cardiovascular exercise that helps with improving mood and the energy level of an individual through the secretion of hormones that induce stress relief. Zumba dance involves various active movements and exercises that stimulate the production of endorphins in the body in order to suppress the action of stress-causing hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline. Studies show that exercise is very effective at reducing fatigue, improving alertness and concentration, and enhancing overall cognitive function. Students enjoyed Zumba so much and were so filled with energy that they asked Mr. Padilla to continue past his hour of instruction time. He was most gracious and continued for an additional 5 minutes of instruction. Thanks to Noorualin Adil for working this event, and SGA for their support with student activities.
