Entry-Level Job Applicants
What is School Counts?
It is a program of the Business Coalition for Educational Excellence at
the New Jersey Chamber of Commerce. The Atlantic County program was
initiated by the Atlantic County Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with
Atlantic County Government, the Atlantic City Regional Chamber of Commerce,
Atlantic Cape Community College, and the Atlantic-Cape May Workforce Investment
Board.
The Cape May County program was initiated by the Chambers of
Commerce of Greater Wildwood, Cape May County, Greater Ocean City, and
Greater Cape May; the County of Cape May; Atlantic Cape Community College,
and the Atlantic-Cape May Workforce Investment Board.
School Counts! Is
a voluntary high school program in which students have the opportunity
to earn a School Counts Certificate annually; this Certificate can be presented
to employers when applying for an entry-level job.
The Certificate verifies
that students have:
- Obtained a grade of ‘C’ or better in every
course
- Achieved a 95% attendance and punctuality record
- Completed high school
in eight consecutive semesters
- Taken more than the minimum graduation
requirements
How does it work?
- Students register with their high school counselors for
the School Counts Program.
- Counselors issue the Certificate on an annual
basis to students who meet the standards.
- Students present the Certificate
to a participating School Counts employer.
- Employers use the Certificate
in their evaluation and assessment of the potential employee’s
workforce readiness skills and behavior.
