Prerequisites: High school diploma or GED, physical exam, documentation of immunizations, two-step PPD and hepatitis B series, criminal background check for hospital-based clinical placement. Proof must be provided on first day of class. Candidates must successfully complete academic assessment test.
Medical assistants are highly trained individuals who perform a variety of administrative and clinical duties in the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other healthcare facilities. Clinical duties include taking medical histories, recording vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting the physician during the examination.
Coursework includes anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, medical law and ethics, phlebotomy, laboratory procedures, electrocardiography, principles of pharmacology, disease and pathology, infection control, CPR and first aid, office procedures, and clinical experience in a medical setting.
Students completing all course requirements will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) certification examination. The cost of this exam is included in the program fee.
