American Sign Language for Health Care Professionals

During this workshop, students will build their vocabulary of signs and phrases for effective communication with deaf and hard-of-hearing persons using gestures, body language, mime, facial expression and lip movement. This course will incorporate interactional techniques, role-playing and skill drills to help improve communication. Instruction will include an introduction to numbers, basic medical sign language, manual alphabet and terms and phrases commonly found in a health care setting. This course is not designed to train the participant as an interpreter, but to provide the ability for basic communication with deaf and hard-of-hearing persons.
