Controller - Job Opportunities at Atlantic Cape

Reporting to the Dean of Finance, the Controller will provide daily administration of and technical expertise on the college accounting, reporting and record-keeping functions. The Controller is also responsible for the technical accuracy of the management information system and maintaining current knowledge of federal, state and local regulations and administration of college policy. The Controller oversees payroll, accounts payable, grants accounting, capital asset and general ledger accounting. Serving as back-up to the Dean, represents Finance, as needed, at Board of Trustee meetings, Board committee meetings and other college meetings and functions.

Duties:
  • Serves as back up to the Dean
  • Serves as bank signatory
  • Provides daily administration of and technical expertise on the college accounting, reporting and record-keeping functions
  • Oversees the college accounting system and internal and external financial reporting, including GASB financial statements
  • Oversees payroll preparations and monthly, quarterly and annual payroll reporting
  • Supervises general ledger, grants and capital asset accounting and accounts payable
  • Assists in maintaining the technical accuracy of the management information system
  • Analyzes accounts and prepares account schedules and statements
  • Manages and evaluates staff
  • Plans, organizes and delegates work to staff
  • Maintain current knowledge of accounting standards and federal, state and other regulatory guidance including payroll and grant related regulations
  • Works with Human Resources on employee benefits and deductions and performs reconciliations as necessary
  • Evaluates processes and internal controls for compliance with accounting standards and federal, state and other regulations
  • Makes recommendations to the Dean on any unusual problems, suggestions for change or improvements
  • Provides senior level support to the annual audit
  • Represents Finance, as needed, at Board meetings, Board committee meetings and other College meetings and functions
  • Assures that office responsibilities are completed accurately and on a timely basis
  • Assures that necessary office supplies and equipment are available
  • Performs related tasks as required
Minimum Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration
  • Professional certification (CPA, CIA or CMA)
  • MBA in lieu of professional certification

 Experience

  • Minimum of seven years accounting experience
  • Five years of direct supervisory experience
  • Mainframe (Management Information Systems) accounting experience (Ellucian Colleague preferred)

 Competencies and Skills:

  • Strong computer skills including technical expertise in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and management reporting tools
  • Effective communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting and record-keeping procedures
Primary location for this position is the Mays Landing Campus, but may require flexible scheduling to include evenings and weekends at any Atlantic Cape location.
