General Description

Reporting to the President, the Executive Director of Marketing & College Relations position serves as the Chief Marketing and College Relations officer for the college providing strategic and operational leadership as well as oversight to all marketing and college relations functions. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with external college constituencies.

Provides leadership in meeting the college’s enrollment goals by collaborating with the leadership team, in particular partnering with Admissions, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Institutional Research and Finance to ensure integration of emerging markets in higher education programming and services, demographics, student demand, college-wide priorities and financial planning.

Provides strategic oversight for college marketing in support of the College Foundation. Works with the college community at-large in the creation, implementation and assessment of best-practice initiatives, strategies and plans related to Marketing and College Relations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in the development of innovative policy, procedure, programs and systems in support of Marketing and College Relations;
  • Provides leadership to all marketing and college relations functions including communication distribution channels, college website, public information and social media development;
  • Serves as official college spokesperson/public information officer;
  • Develops, enhances and maintains the brand of the college;
  • Coordinates and implements public relations plans and activities in support of the college’s mission and strategic priorities; maintains and updates college’s Crisis Communication Plan;
  • Develops annual marketing plan; directs and executes marketing strategies and campaigns for college constituents as well as the Atlantic Cape Foundation;
  • Creates and implements integrated multi-channel marketing campaigns (local and regional) for college programs and services using print, electronic, outdoor, online, web and social media and including use of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM);
  • Develops, executes and evaluates marketing strategies and campaigns using digital media components, appropriate analytic methods and conducting simple to complex data analysis to assess return on investment (ROI);
  • Assists the President and Cabinet in identifying, establishing and maintaining effective relationships with external college constituencies; represents the college administration at community and college affairs;
  • Informs senior management of emerging issues and opportunities for action by the college, including such areas as new technologies, relevant applications of current MIS system and crisis management;
  • Evaluates and recommends marketing opportunities to college departments, including identification and cultivation of potential traditional and digital partnerships;
  • Conducts market research, collecting and analyzing data of user activities, local and regional demographics, enrollment/student data and industry trends in collaboration with Institutional Research;
  • Collaborates with Admissions & College Recruitment in the planning and coordinating of targeted marketing outreach;
  • Directs and evaluates the work of the college’s media buying firm to plan and execute advertising/ marketing campaigns;
  • Writes advertising copy, video scripts and other promotional materials; develops multi-media presentations to market the college’s credit and noncredit programs, the Academy of Culinary Arts and college services;
  • In collaboration with graphic design, develops themes and creative concepts for marketing campaigns, brochures, invitations, logos, websites, special projects and events, coordinating digital, electronics and print media;
  • Oversees the creation of college publications, including annual reports, newsletters, web pages, brochures, flyers, booklets and programs; researches, writes, edits, proofreads and disseminates copy for news releases;
  • Oversees the college’s social media platforms;
  • Serves as an internal resource to members of the college on matters related to marketing and college relations;
  • Supervises and oversees the marketing and public relations staff, insuring that all communications are in compliance with FERPA, Title IX, Title IV, Title VII, Clery Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, other federal and state regulations and college policy.
  • Develops, implements and monitors the Marketing/College Relations budget in concert with the college’s strategic plan;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, or related field.
  • Master’s degree preferred.


  • Minimum five years traditional, email, social media and database marketing experience with a proven track record of generating results.

Competencies and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of data-driven marketing, analytic tools, digital media techniques, usability testing, and emerging trends in marketing.
  • Strong knowledge and demonstrable use of social media and other networking platforms.
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills. Public relations and/or journalism experience preferred.
  • Self-starter with strong self-management experience and planning skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a high-performing award-winning creative team.
  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office products (including Excel) and Constant Contact.
