NOTE: It is expected that the instructor will attend with the class. This sends students a clear signal that the library session is an important part of the learning process. In addition, students often have questions that only the instructor can answer. Attending also provides insight into areas where students might need reinforcement in regard to basic reading comprehension, writing and research skills.

Students will have step by step instructions on searching for books, placing holds and interlibrary loan.

General Interest Databases

Students learn basic search techniques in databases such as Academic Search Premier, Lexis-Nexis and more.

Subject Specific Databases

Introduction to databases that support a variety of subject areas such as current events, sociology, health and literature.

Search Strategy Techniques

Students will be taught basic search techniques such as using keywords, subject terms and Boolean operators.

Website Evaluation

Students will learn to critically evaluate web resources for reliability and accuracy.

Scholarly Versus Popular Resources

Covers the differences between scholarly and popular publications by using examples from academic journals and popular magazines.
