GRADUATION SUCCESS STORY: Atlantic Cape High Honor Speaker Succeeds with Persistence

May 15, 2017

Paolina Holman, 53, of Egg Harbor City, will be the 4.0 Farewell Speaker at the 50th Atlantic Cape Community College Commencement Ceremony, May 18. She leaves Atlantic Cape with an associate degree in general studies and hopes to continue her education at a four-year college in the business field.

Holman’s biggest challenges were not of an academic nature, but finding the balance of work, family and academic responsibilities. She remarked, “I must confess to some initial uneasiness at the thought of returning to school after many years. That was an internal challenge I soon learned to subdue, proving to myself that my love for knowledge and the ability to achieve it has not diminished with the passing of time.”

Holman says, “Focus, persistence and tenacity brought my graduation goal within reach. Atlantic Cape offers an array of night courses, so, by planning and dedicating many late nights to studying, I have achieved what I set out to do.”

Prior to becoming a student, Holman taught Italian courses through the college’s Continuing Education Department. “It has been a lot of fun for me and over the years I have encountered so many interesting and stimulating people, including some wonderful members of the faculty. I intend to continue teaching the course,” she remarked.

“Graduating from Atlantic Cape is not only the point of arrival, but also the stepping stone to the next goal. I have kept my eyes on the prize, and I’m ready to claim it. I will enjoy the celebration for a little while.”
