What makes this exhibit unique is that each of these artists have been attending some form of art instruction classes as part of the Art Program at The Arc of Atlantic County. The classes, taught by talented art instructors affiliated with The Ocean City Fine Arts League, are open to anyone with an intellectual or developmental disability. According to Mary Ruley Moyer, Director of Development and Community Outreach at The Arc of Atlantic County, “the classes encourage people with intellectual or developmental disabilities to express themselves and enhance their wellbeing.  The various forms of art can strengthen a person’s self-esteem giving them the courage to try new things and improve their quality of life.”

“We are excited to display these works which showcases the creative talent of these artists, and includes their work in the community,” commented Katherine Aikens, Art Gallery Coordinator for Atlantic Cape’s William Spangler Library. “This exhibit serves a vital role of raising awareness on social issues for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in our communities,” Aikens added.

Funding for this project is supported by the NJ State Council on the Arts/Dept. of State, a partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts through a grant administered by The Atlantic County office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs.
