What is GPS?

GPS in a car

Global Positioning System (GPS) is a space-based radio-navigation system, consisting of 24 satellites and ground support. GPS provides users with accurate information about their position and velocity, as well as the time, anywhere in the World and in all weather conditions.

This is a relatively new technology that has changed the way we navigate or travel.  Using a traditional road map is in the past.  These days, we can navigate from on site to another with turn-by-turn assistance from a GPS based system, using data and attributes developed by GIS.
