  • New - Geospatial Certification:  Atlantic Cape Community College will be offering a new professional certification in geospatial technology.  This certification is designed for professionals working in Homeland Security, law enforcement, economic development, land developers, land surveyors, military science, engineering, public safety, real estate, municipality professionals, GIS/RS-related professionals, and anyone interested in entering the Geospatial field. For more information visit Geospatial Certification
  • NORAD Tracks Santa: Guess what?  If you thought Santa and the elves were able to do all the planning, you were wrong.  Remote Sensing and GIS is being used by the US and Canadian Government to tracks Santa's Christmas Eve flight every year. For more information visit NORAD Tracks Santa.

  • New course in Geospatial Data Collection: During the Sprint 2010, Atlantic Cape Community College will be offering a new course in Geospatial Data Collection.  The course is intended to provide the student technician-level skill and understanding of working with geospatial data of GIS and recognizing its fundamental significance of data accuracy, and coherent geospatial data in the analysis and decision-making process The course has as prerequisite GIST101 (Introduction to Geographic Information Systems) and MATH074 (Introduction to Algebra II). We understand that many people has the experience in the area of GIS who would like to register. Please, contact us if you have experience, training, or courses from other institution in GIS and are interested in the course, so we can provide a waiver for the prerequisite. (Announcement for course)

November 2009

  • GIS Day a Success at Atlantic Cape Atlantic Cape joined the worldwide Geographic Information Systems Day Nov. 18, with celebrations at all three campuses. GIS is a computer-based mapping tool that takes information from a database about locations such as streets, buildings, water features and terrain, and turns it into visual layers. GIS is used in finding the best location to establish a business, for emergency management, crime prevention, environmental management and many other uses.
    Speakers included Dr. Laramie Potts, Assistant Professor in the Department of Engineering Technology at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Atlantic Cape’s Beacons by the Sea Visiting Professor; Matt Martini, Senior Account Representative for the Philadelphia Region’s Environmental Systems Research Institute; Ann Jeffers, Geographic Coordinator for U.S. Census Bureau Philadelphia Region; and Officer Joseph Latigona, Medford Township Police Department.
    Held each year for the past decade on the Wednesday of National Geographic Society’s Geography Awareness Week, GIS Day is a global grassroots celebration of the innovative technology that uses geography to bring countless benefits.
