1993
"The Night Suite"
Philadelphia, PA
from Philadelphia Inquirer
critic: Edward Sozanski

"Knowles' series of monotypes are an interesting string of notations, not just mere jottings. The addition of text makes them even more memorable."

1995
"Human Nature"
Philadelphia, PA
from City Paper
critic: Andrew Mangravite

"The bulk of this show reveals her as an artist searching out new paths of expression. I wait with anticipation to see where this new path is leading her!"

1995
"Human Nature"
Philadelphia, PA
from City Paper
critic: Robin Rice

"This work suggests Knowles(-England's) general strategies for bringing personal mythology, icons of art history, and the real or natural world into alignment through juxtaposition and resolution. The need for this kind of realignment is a real one. The whole (exhibition) is pleasing; it is ordered."

1993
"Morris Beach: The Seasons"
Philadelphia, PA
from Welcomat
critic: Andrew Mangravite

Cheryl Knowles(-England) is one of the privileged artists who has the "gift"-she sees and presents before us, the world as an organic whole. These are very much works of poetry, so the comment is frequently oblique or direct but not muted. On the basis of her show, I'd say the (gallery) season is off to a good start.
