Employee Benefits

Atlantic Cape Community College participates in the NJ School Employee's Health Benefits Program (SEHBP) as a local education employer. Eligible employees can choose from two different health plans available through Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield's NJ Educators or Aetna Garden State. A high-deductible plan is also available.

Prescription Drug coverage is through OptumRx. A mail-order service is available at a cost savings.

Enrollment in SEHBP is effective after 60 days of employment. Faculty hired on a 10-month contract, hired at the start of the school year, will have their benefits effective on September 1.

SEHBP coverage is offered to full-time employees and their eligible dependents. Eligible dependents are spouses and children up to age 26. Coverage for dependent children will terminate on December 31st of the year they turn 26 years old.

All employees are required to contribute to the cost of their health and prescription insurance under Chapter 78, P.L. 2011. The percentage of the premium paid is based on the employee's salary, plan selected, and coverage level.

Adjunct instructors who are eligible for pension enrollment through the NJ Alternate Benefit Program (ABP) or the Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS) may purchase SEHBP coverage for themselves and their dependents. Current SEHBP rates.

Dental benefits are provided through Delta Dental Plan of New Jersey. The PPO plus Premier plan is a traditional fee-for-service dental plan which offers 100 percent coverage for preventative care, 80% coverage for basic restorative services, and 50% coverage for major restorative services. Annual deductibles and calendar year maximum benefits are also applicable. Dependent children are covered until their 19th birthday. If they are full-time college students, they will be covered until their 23rd birthday.

An optional buy up plan is availabe at a small cost to the employee. It includes orthodontics, intergrated oral health and implant coverage.

Vision Care Claim Form

Annual vision exams are provided through the medical carriers. In addition, Atlantic Cape will reimburse employees and eligible dependents up to allowable amounts for glasses or contact lenses. Eligibility for this benefit is once every two years, as negotiated through collective bargaining.

All full-time employees are enrolled in the sick-leave coordinated short-term disability plan administered by Prudential Insurance Company. Benefits for disabled employees are paid per diem once all accrued sick leave has expired. Employees may choose to purchase optional short and long term disability plans, approved by the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA), through Prudential Insurance Company. Premiums for the optional plans will be deducted through payroll deductions.

Atlantic Cape offers full-time employees both a Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA), administered by WageWorks. The FSA allows participants to contribute pre-tax dollars, which can be used for co-pays, deductibles, dental, vision, and dependent day care. The medical limit is $3,200 per year, and the day care limit is $5,000 per year.

Eligible employees will be enrolled into a pension system through the New Jersey Division of Pensions and Benefits. There are three pension options, based on employee category. Employees will participate in the Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS), Defined Contribution Retirement Plan (DCRP), or Alternate Benefits Program (ABP).

PERS (Public Employees' Retirement System) is a defined benefit pension system, open to full-time employees. The pension contribution rate is set by the Division of Pensions and Benefits. Retirement benefits are based on a calculation which includes years of service in the system, and final average salary. Life insurance benefits through PERS are payable to the beneficiary at 3X the member's salary. PERS members can manage their pension accounts through the Member Benefits Online System (MBOS)

Eligible part-time employees will be enrolled into the DCRP (Defined Contribution Retirement Plan) pension. Employees contribute 5% of their base salary and the college contributes 3% of base salary. Investment options are managed through Prudential Retirement. Life insurance benefits through DCRP are payable to the beneficiary at 1.5X the member's salary.

ABP (Alternate Benefit Program) is a defined contribution retirement program for higher education faculty, adjuncts, and administrators. Employees contribute 5% of base salary and the college contributes 8% of base salary. There are seven State-authorized ABP investment carriers (see below). Life insurance benefits through ABP are payable to the beneficiary at 3.5X the member's salary.
