Atlantic Cape Community College campus in Mays Landing. Dr. Heard speaks at HAPS Town Hall Meeting.

Atlantic Cape biology professor Barbara R. Heard was a speaker during the second of four town hall events supporting students with disabilities in anatomy and physiology laboratories hosted by the Human Anatomy and Physiology Society (HAPS).

Heard is a member of the HAPS Accommodations Subcommittee. Her presentation focused on the support of students with visual impairments in the anatomy and physiology laboratory.

The four-part town hall series was open to anyone interested, and each of the webinars provided pertinent information and suggested accommodations for students with various disabilities.

Accommodations enable students with disabilities to more actively participate in laboratory activities, an important element to successful completion of a science class.

Each of the four presentations enabled participants to ask questions, and encouraged discussion of specific accommodations instructors have provided for students.

The accommodations data collected during the series will be used to compile a guide to assist instructors in effectively supporting students with disabilities in the anatomy and physiology laboratory.
