The Atlantic Cape Student Nurses Club will host its SimMom Baby Shower 12:30 p.m. Monday, April 4 in H-108 (nursing lab) to benefit families in need.

The Baby Shower, which has been on hold for the last two years due to COVID-19, is for a faux delivery of babies from the Nursing Program’s female simulator, SimMom.

Attendees are encouraged to bring donations of baby items, which will be donated to the Atlantic County Women’s Shelter and Meest, a nonprofit supporting Ukraine refugees and humanitarian aid.

Donations of baked goods will also be accepted.

"We would like to extend the invitation to the college community to take an enjoyable break from the workday and join us for food and festivities at the SimMom Baby Shower,” said Polly Thieler, Nurses Club advisor and Assistant Professor of Nursing.

The Academy of Culinary Arts will donate a cake for the occasion.

In addition to collecting items for families in need, the Baby Shower provides an opportunity for the Nursing Program to show off its state-of-the art simulators that mimic human bodily functions such as breathing, heartbeat, sweating, illness, and even birth.

SimMom is an advanced birthing simulator the nursing program acquired in 2015 that goes through labor and delivery of a simulated baby.

In addition, the program also has a SimBaby representing a 10-month-old, SimJr. representing a 10-year-old child, and SimG, representing a middle-aged man, as well as several other low-fidelity simulators that students practice on. The simulation equipment available at Atlantic Cape is federally funded and gives nursing students an advantage over students in other programs around the state.
