MAYS LANDING — Atlantic Cape Community College’s Art Gallery debuted its “Narrative Interrupted” art exhibit, which features the artworks of Lauren Hallquist Anderson and Christine Petty Taber, on June 12 in the Daniel Leeds Hall (D Building) William Spangler Library second floor on the Mays Landing campus.

Lisa-Hamilton Christine-Petty and Lauren Hallquist AndersonAnderson and Petty are working artists from the Philadelphia area. Their paths crossed at the Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA) while creating screen prints and were greatly influenced by their former professor, Lisa Hamilton. Utilizing the PAFA Print Shop affords Anderson and Petty the opportunity to maintain the continuity of the process and explore the endless possibilities that are inherent in the discipline.  Printmakers tend to experience a camaraderie with fellow printmakers, a collaborative and positive spirit, and great joy in learning from others.

“The trajectory of their work has overlapped as they spent the greater part of their adult lives in non-artistic efforts related to family and work. Time to pursue more creative endeavors was at a minimum even as they sought out the creative outlets so crucial to their existence,” Atlantic Cape Art Gallery Coordinator Katherine Aikens said. “Additionally, the visceral need to make work has dominated their output as their life narrative was continually interrupted by life events including each losing a husband.”

Most of the work on display represents output created over the last ten years, with the addition of some earlier works as well.

The exhibit runs through August 10 and will conclude with a closing reception that evening in the Art Gallery from 5-6:30 p.m.

The Art Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. and is closed Friday through Sunday.
