MAYS LANDING — Atlantic Cape Community College has added an exciting new Associate in Science (A.S.) Physics degree program at its Mays Landing campus that will start this fall when classes reconvene on Tuesday, September 5.

An Atlantic Cape A.S. Physics degree will focus on providing students with the foundational resources that will allow them to pursue their baccalaureate degree and establish worthwhile physics careers in academia and industry. This versatile program may be applied to many career paths in science, such as coding, cybersecurity, data science, game engines, modeling, national security and software engineering.

“Physics addresses the most fundamental and overarching physical principles of nature and the universe and therefore provides the basis for all other sciences,” said Dr. Francis Toriello, assistant professor physics and faculty advisor for the physics program. “Students who meet the challenging curriculum of physics gain a greatly expanded worldview as well as a unique, versatile, and strong problem solving and critical thinking skill set which in turn grants these students access to a diverse and healthy professional forefront.”

According to Toriello, Atlantic Cape worked closely with Rowan University to ensure that the physics curriculum was easily transferable to a baccalaureate program. The Physics degree program also allows the student to pursue coursework in other scientific areas including Biology, Chemistry and Computer Science. This degree will also be suited for students who wish to major in science, but are unsure of precisely which field to commit to as a profession.

“An Associate in Science Physics degree, therefore, is a solid and reliable foundation upon which students may build a competitive academic career," Dr. Toriello concluded.
