Registration for Academy of Culinary Arts Spring Classes Begins Oct. 29

If you’ve always loved to cook or are ready to make a career change, now is the time to register for spring 2019 classes at the Academy of Culinary Arts at Atlantic Cape Community College, ranked the No. 1 culinary school in New Jersey by Best Choice Schools. Spring classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 22.

New culinary students should contact Judy DeSalvo at (609) 343-5624 or to schedule a registration appointment. Registration hours are weekdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students who take advantage of early registration can delay their payment until Dec. 4. Atlantic Cape also offers an interest-free tuition payment plan for students.

Atlantic Cape has also been selected to participate in Governor Phil Murphy’s “Community College Opportunity Grant,” a pilot program that will launch in the spring semester. Students who make an adjusted gross income of $45,000 or less, are taking six or more credits and have applied for federal and state grant aid may be eligible to have the remainder of their tuition and educational fees balance paid for through this program. Current students who have already completed a financial aid application for the fall 2018 semester will be automatically considered for eligibility if they enroll for at least six credits in the spring 2019 semester. Students who have not yet filed for financial aid will have until Feb. 15, 2019 to apply for Community College Opportunity Grant awards. Visit for more information on eligibility and how to apply.

The academy offers two-year degree programs in culinary arts, baking and pastry, and food service management, and specialization programs in hot foods, baking and pastry, food service management and catering.

The academy also offers two one-year certificate programs, Baking and Pastry Certificate I and Culinary Arts Certificate I. These two-semester certificates are designed to provide students with career training for entry-level positions in the baking and pastry or culinary fields. The certificates can also be used as a foundation for completing an associate degree at the Academy of Culinary Arts. 

ACA students have many opportunities to gain hands-on experience throughout the year. Some activities include: Atlantic Cape Community College Restaurant Gala, Iron Student Chef Competition, American Culinary Federation’s Junior Chefs Competition, Atlantic Cape’s Organic Greenhouse, Strudels Bakeshop, Culinary Student Association and food shows. Students have gone on to compete on nationally televised food shows including Chopped and The Next Food Network Star.

Full-time classes meet five hours a day, Monday through Friday, in morning or afternoon sessions.
